Awards
Celebrating Leadership Across Canada
The CFMS offers several national awards recognizing exceptional medical student leadership, including the CFMS Affinity Leadership Award, the CFMS-MD Financial Management Leadership Awards, and the CFMS-CPAMD Humanitarian Award. These awards honour students who demonstrate outstanding contributions to advocacy, leadership, and the medical student experience across Canada.

CFMS-CPAMD Humanitarian Award
Offered in partnership with CPAMD, this award recognizes medical students who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to
global health, international development, and health equity through strong advocacy efforts.
In recognition of their achievements, one member of the Canadian Federation of Medical Students (CFMS) will receive the award. This award consists of:
- One engraved trophy
- One all expenses paid to attend the 3-day CFMS Spring General Meeting in April to receive the award
- Immediate access to a grant of minimum $5000+ to fund the initiative, along with national exposure and ongoing support from CPAMD and CFMS
This year, to make the award even more meaningful, extra awards of $1,000 will be offered to two distinctive medical student lead humanitarian initiatives.
Eligibility:
- Applicants need to be CFMS members.
- Students can apply together for a joined initiative. However prize will have to be shared.
- Past and current CFMS Associates, National Officers, Leads and Cmte Chairs are welcome to apply as long as CFMS is not mentioned in their application and the initiative is not CFMS related. Same applies to past board members. Current Board members cannot apply.
Applications are now open until 30 November 2025. The application form can be found here and will also be shared through CFMS communication channels. Award winners will be notified in February 2026.

CFMS-MD Financial Leadership Awards
These awards, supported by MD Financial Management, honour one medical student from each member school for outstanding leadership and contributions to student life. Awardees have demonstrated initiative and commitment to improving the medical community at the local, provincial, or national level.
In recognition of their achievements, one student from each of the 15 member schools of the Canadian Federation of Medical Students (CFMS) will receive a Medical Student Leadership Award. This award consists of:
A certificate of recognition
A cash prize of $2,000
CFMS inidividual members (from non CFMS member schools) are welcome to apply and form a 16th category.
Past and current CFMS Associates, National Officers, Leads and Cmte Chairs are welcome to apply as long as CFMS is not mentioned in their application and the initiative(s) is(are) not CFMS related. Same applies to past board members. Current Board members cannot apply.
Applications are now open until 15 January 2026. The application form can be found here as well as shared through CFMS communication channels.
An awards ceremony and reception will be held at the CMSC 2026. Attendance is optional. Partial travel funding will be available on TEF basis.
