Dear Incoming Medical Students,

Congratulations on starting medical school! The coming years will be among your most

memorable, exciting, and formative, offering many opportunities for personal, academic,

and professional growth. Your acceptance into medical school is an incredible accomplishment. I encourage you to reflect on the path that has gotten you to this point,

recognize all of the people who have helped you along the way, and celebrate the fact that

you are the next generation of physicians.

It is my honor to welcome you all to the Canadian Federation of Medical Students (CFMS), your national, student-run organization whose mission is to connect, support, and represent your voice and interests. As a CFMS member, you are part of a network of over 9,000 medical students from 15 medical schools across Canada. Through this membership, you have access to numerous leadership opportunities and benefits, which include:

Working on our education, global health, government affairs and advocacy, and

student affairs portfolios and their respective initiatives.

4. Get Involved with the CFMS

Fall recruitment is our largest recruitment cycle. Here, you will have the opportunity

to apply for hundreds of volunteering and leadership positions within each of the

CFMS portfolios. Applications will open in August. Feel free to email your school’s

VP External or CFMS Regional Directors for more information.

Medical school is an incredible journey. Along the way, you’ll meet inspiring mentors,

preceptors, and patients who will shape you into the physician you aspire to become. You’ll

also build a diverse community of fellow students who will become your lifelong colleagues and friends. This community will celebrate your successes and support you through challenges—lean on them, and be there for each other. Embrace the diversity of your experiences, foster kindness, and create a culture of safe, brave learning. Remember: you are never alone. The CFMS is here to support you every step of the way.
