  • The President is responsible for the general supervision and direction of the business of the CFMS. Overall goal-setting and vision fall under the President’s responsibilities. The President also serves as the spokesperson for the organization to the public, the media, the government, and national medical organizations.

  • The Past-President advises the President and the Board through their role as Board Chair. Additionally, they are the Governance Committee Chair and serve as Chief Returning Officer and Parliamentarian, actively involved with elections conducted at AGM and SGM. They also serve as the student representative on the Canadian Medical Association board.

  • Vice-President Communications

  • The Vice-President Communications guides the internal and external communication of the CFMS. They manage the public profile of the CFMS, including the website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn profiles, and engage with news media. They promote the activities of the CFMS, as well as the successes and advocacy efforts of medical students across Canada. The Vice-President Communications is the contact person for any news media requests.

  • Vice-President Finance

  • The Vice-President Finance guides the overall fiscal management of the CFMS, and acts as the Chief Financial Officer. They are responsible for managing the CFMS bank accounts, investments, expenses, revenue, and payroll. They are also actively involved in broadening the financial resource base of the CFMS by seeking alternative sources of revenue through grants, advertising, donations and sponsorship.

  • Interim Director Education

  • The Director of Education is responsible for supporting initiatives related to learning and training in undergraduate medical education, and is especially committed to working towards anti-oppressive medical education for equitable health and care. Considering the breadth of topics concerning medical education, this portfolio has traditionally involved overseeing curriculum initiatives with the Education Committee, advocacy at a national level with the National Officers, and understanding the unique experiences at individual medical schools with representatives from each school on the Academic Roundtable. The Director of Education, and other members of the Education Committee also represent medical students to many external organizations. As this role continues to evolve and given the recent impact of the pandemic, they will also be supporting learner-led advocacy on changes faced by medical students at various stages of their undergraduate education.

  • Director Government Affairs

  • The Director of Government Affairs addresses the organization's commitment to representation through political advocacy initiatives at a local and national level. They serve as the chair of the Government Affairs & Advocacy Committee (GAAC), organize the CFMS Federal Lobby Day, coordinate position papers, and represent the CFMS on all issues of a political nature.

  • Director Student Affairs

  • The Director of Student Affairs is responsible for overseeing the CFMS Student Wellness portfolio, the CFMS Leadership Awards and for coordinating the CFMS member benefits and services. This position requires collaboration with the National Wellness Officer, Wellness Representatives, and various external partners to promote wellness and resilience. The Director of Student Affairs advocates for and supports members through the development of resources, including the launch of the Longitudinal Wellness Strategy and the STRIVE Resiliency course to promote wellness of medical students across the country.

  • Director Global Health

  • The Director of Global Health is responsible for overseeing global health projects that develop at a national level via National Officers (NO’s), and supporting projects at the local level via Global Health Liaisons (GHLs). They are a liaison between these parties, as well as external persons and organizations such as the International Federation of Medical Students’ Association (IFMSA) and Association of Faculties of Medicine (AFMC). The Director of Global Health serves as the President of the Canadian delegation to the IFMSA. They directly oversee seven National Officers and support projects focused on such as reproductive and sexual health, Indigenous health, environmental health, human rights and peace, international exchanges, global health education, equity, diversity and inclusivity (EDI), and more.

  • Regional Directors

    Regional Directors are fully functioning and voting members of the Board and have the specialized role of ensuring that the board is kept abreast of up-to-the-moment developments at all of the member schools. Regional Directors serve as liaisons between the Board and the medical society representatives and presidents. They work closely with all VPs and other Directors under the direction of the President to ensure communication between the Board and medical societies. They are also expected to take on national projects and responsibilities on behalf of the Board.
