    COVID-19 Related CMEJ Blog Posts

The COVID-19 pandemic and public health measures implemented to curb the spread (flatten the curve) and protect us all from exploding and fatal levels of infection have been very disruptive. This has led to unprecedented innovation but also considerable suffering from death of friends and relatives to minor inconveniences such as restrictions on non-essential movements and our favourite recreational activities.

The lives and careers of medical students, residents, faculty, and staff have been affected in many ways and to different degrees. If you are willing and able to write about your medical education related experiences but need a medium to get your ideas out to a wide audience, consider submitting your essays to the CMEJ blog through our normal submission process. Blogs will not be subject to a full peer review process. One or more of our editors will work with authors to polish the blog post before being published on-line. Due to the time-sensitive nature of these posts, we will try to expedite their processing.

    Research 101

The vision of the CFMS Research Committee is to encourage translational research, highlight outstanding research projects and provide the necessary toolbox for future MDs, clinician-scientists and clinician investigators to conduct evidence-based research.

Medical students are in a unique position because of their clinical perspective on patients, disease presentation and the healthcare system. This is why we encourage students to capitalize on their opportunities to conduct research. Research pushes the boundaries of medicine and can provide important information about disease trends, risk factors, outcomes of treatment or public health interventions, patterns of care and healthcare costs and use.

Please find the resources that the Research Committee has created here.

    Research Ethics in Canada

The CFMS Research Portfolio has complied a template pertaining to the research ethics review process. While not comprehensive, this template provides students with an overview of the typical elements examined in a review of ethical considerations for research involving humans. Further, students who wish to conduct a research project in affiliation with the CFMS are asked to complete this form and submit it to the CFMS Board as part of their request.
