Indigenous Health Fall Recruitment
Call for Applicants – Indigenous Health Portfolio Leadership Team (Fall Recruitment)
The Indigenous Health Portfolio within CFMS is now accepting applications for its Fall recruitment cycle. These roles are pivotal in advancing reconciliation, building partnerships, and amplifying Indigenous voices across our national organization.
Open Positions & Committees:
Indigenous Health Relationship Building & Communications Committee
- Focus: Deepen connections between Indigenous medical students and CFMS through networking, communications, and relationship building.
- Activities include: fostering nationwide partnerships, celebrating student achievements, integrating Indigenous perspectives into CFMS structures and events, and promoting reconciliation.
Within that committee, applicants may apply for one of the following roles:
- IMSAC Representative: Serve as a liaison with the Indigenous Medical Students’ Association of Canada, ensuring collaborative alignment and mutual support.
- Social Media & Communications: Create culturally respectful content—student spotlights, advocacy messaging, and newsletter features—to uplift Indigenous voices.
- Student Engagement & Consultation: Reach out to Indigenous medical students nationwide, gather input, and recommend inclusive programming and governance advancements.
- Event & Cultural Integration: Work with organizers to incorporate Indigenous ways of being—ceremonies, land acknowledgements, cultural teachings—into national CFMS events.

National Indigenous Medical Education Report Committee
- Purpose: Expand on Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Calls to Action by evaluating and guiding progress in Canadian medical education.
- Phase 1 (Data Collection): Gather data on Indigenous admissions, curricula, student supports, mentorship, and advocacy programs at medical schools.
- Phase 2 (Comparison & Advocacy): Analyze findings, produce a public-facing report, and collaborate with CFMS leadership and relevant organizations to advocate for systemic improvements.
Scholarship & Partnerships Committee
- Focus: Secure and develop sustainable financial support for Indigenous medical students by engaging donors, organizations, and partners.
- Responsibilities include drafting proposals, forging partnerships, ensuring alignment with CFMS financial policies, maintaining transparency in funding, and promoting scholarship opportunities.
