Make Poverty History Campaign

The CFMS has signed onto the Make Poverty History Campaign and will be supporting a number of projects across the country this year.
The Make Poverty History Campaign is part of a worldwide alliance called the Global Call to Action Against Poverty (www.whiteband.org). This campaign is focused on getting governments to take action and get the world on track to achieve the United Nations Millennium Development Goals .
There are eight United Nations Millennium Development Goals (www.un.org/millenniumgoals):
- Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger
- Achieve Universal Primary Education
- Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women
- Reduce Child Mortality
- Improve Maternal Health
- Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Other Diseases
- Ensure Environmental Sustainability
- Develop a Global Partnership for Development
Achievement of goal one would have a significant positive impact on goals two through seven.
The campaign has three platforms for Canadians to help Make Poverty History:
- More and Better Aid
- Trade Justice
- Cancel the Debt
In Canada the campaign also has a fourth platform which addresses poverty at home:
- End Child Poverty in Canada
