International Health Curriculum
“…..with global health teaching, future doctors will understand
the wider aspects of health and appreciate the context of their work.
As the world changes, so does the health of the people of the world
and the influences on their health. Doctors, students, and
medical education must keep up.”
Catherine Bateman et al ( Lancet 2001; 358: 1539-42)
Exposure to global health varies significantly across the country for Canadian medical students. In the fall of 2004 the CFMS International Health Program formed a working group to try and narrow this gap. The objective of this working group was to consolidate the existing research and support and create a document that students could present to their Dean of Medicine proposing the incorporation of global health into their medical curriculum. This group will be reporting to the International Health Program at the CFMS Annual General Meeting in September. Check back for details near the end of September.
