Hosted Meetings
Fall Annual General Meeting
In addition to representing the student voice at numerous external meetings (please see Representation), the CFMS hosts a few meetings of its own.
A very significant meeting is the 3 day Fall Annual General Meeting, generally referred to as the AGM. This meeting is attended by the full board: Executive, officers, school representatives, office administrator, and observers. The CFMS covers the cost of the executive and the Office Administrator, while the schools have committed funds to send two representatives to the AGM. The observers fund themselves.
The AGM is very important for a number of reasons. Most concretely, the new executive are elected at this meeting by all voting members of the board (two votes per school and the members of the executive) for a years term. The AGM is also where the last year is reviewed in detail with reports from everyone at the meeting. Projects are highlighted, successes praised and disappointments reviewed.
Also, the AGM is where the next 12 months are defined. The priorities and initiatives for the coming year are outlined and people assume responsibility for identified projects.
There has previously been attendees such as Ministers of Health and the CMA president at the AGM.
The AGM is open to all students, and we encourage you to talk to your local CFMS representative
about exact dates and location. The typical date is the third weekend in September. Minutes from previous AGMs are posted on the website.
Executive Meetings
The Executive meets twice a year (winter and spring). (Please see positions for a definition of Executive). These meetings vary in location and are usually picked to minimize cost to the organization. They are intense affairs lasting 1.5 days and covering a lot of ground. However, the advent and aggressive use of e-mail has lightened the load a lot.
This is a chance to refocus projects, discuss problems, build momentum and deal with new priorities that have arisen since the AGM.
A BiAnnual General Meeting
A BiAnnual meeting is usually held in April.
